Terms of use
Last updated 2026-05-15
The short version
Use Cortex for personal or commercial work. Source is available, not redistributable. No warranty — it's a fresh v0.1 build.
Permitted use
You may install and run Cortex on machines you own or operate, for personal or commercial purposes. You may inspect the published source for security review, learning, or auditing.
Restrictions
- You may not redistribute compiled binaries or rehost the source under another name.
- You may not remove copyright or attribution from the source or compiled artefacts.
- You may not present Cortex as your own product or sell access to a hosted Cortex without a separate written agreement.
Future paid tier
Williamson Automation LLC may release a paid tier with hosted features (cloud sync, team workspaces, packaged eval suites, etc.) at a later date. The local-first, single-user desktop app will remain free.
API providers and your costs
Cortex calls Anthropic's Claude models using your signed-in Anthropic
plan via the official @anthropic-ai/claude-code runtime.
You are responsible for the cost of those calls and for compliance
with Anthropic's terms of service. Cortex does not proxy, mark up,
or share in those charges. Future versions may add other providers
on the same direct-to-provider basis.
No warranty
Cortex is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Williamson Automation LLC disclaims all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Williamson Automation LLC is not liable for any damages, loss of data, lost profits, or other incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of Cortex.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. Material changes will be announced on the Cortex GitHub repository. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
